Steve Thompson was born in 1971 in London. He was trained at the Trinity College of Music in London between 1990 and 1995 where he studied the trombone, composition and arrangement and electronic music. During this time he also received the Associate Diploma from the Royal College of Music (ARCM) In 1995 he continued his studies for a further year at Trinity as a Jazz scholar.

After leaving college Steve played with many orchestras and ensembles including the London Concert Orchestra, The London Mozart Players, the Vituosi of London and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

In 1995 Steve was asked to write a short fanfare for the opening of a new opera house in central London, an event that was attended by HRH The Prince of Wales. Later that year he was asked to write a similar composition for HRH The Princess Royal. Other requests followed including an invitation from Rt Hon John Major MP to play at 10 Downing Street, and at the Launch of 'Classic FM magazine' at the 'Royal Festival Hall'.

In 2004 Steve was asked to contribute music for the Feature film 'Love' by Cat Films.

He has performed in almost every major concert venue in the UK and has toured most countries in Europe. Steve has worked with many virtuoso contemporary musicians including Nigel Kennedy and Diego Mason. He has also appeared numerous times on Television and Radio including ITV's 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Take Away' and 'The Two Ronnie's Sketch Book', where he appeared with 'Lisa Stansfield' He has also worked on children's TV appearing on the BBC show 'Dick n' Dom in Da Bungalow'.

Steve has appeared on many recordings with various groups and orchestras, including 'Its All Been Arranged' with Chameleon Brass and 'Canzon' - a digital only release, which he also arranged and produced. In 2007 he produced the groups third album 'Colours of Christmas'. His arrangements for brass quintet and large brass group have been sold around the world and performed in Italy, USA and Australia and Japan.

He currently has two solo albums in production - a solo Jazz recording entitled 'Betcha Bottom Dollar' and a collection of classical trombone works entitled 'Lore'.

His first book, a tutor for budding trombonists was published by Warwick Music in 2006.

Steve is currently Head of Brass at Eltham College in London and also teaches at The James Allen's Girls School and St Dunstans College.
